While
having a garden is nice, having one without garden accents leaves
a little to be desired. While you can buy statuettes or trinkets to
help accentuate this area, you can also do it simply by landscaping
better.
No backyard or garden is complete without being able to have some
special accessories that you can use in an effort to accentuate it.
However, before you buy any kind of lawn ornaments, you should first
try to take a look around your garden and look for bare spots, spots
where there are plants that are struggling to survive, and spots that
just need a little more sprucing up.
It is a good idea to look for bare spots because doing so will give
you a better idea of where you might want to do a little bit of decorating
or dressing up of your garden. It is important to try and keep things
as even as possible and filling in the bare spots will allow you to
do this.
The main question that you need to ask yourself is do you want to
create a large focal point in your backyard?
Visitors and even the gardener themselves will always be looking
for come kind of a focal point because this is the general position
where the eyes naturally will come to a stop and come to rest. Without
a focal point, there is essentially no structure to the garden and
you will basically almost always struggle in looking for one or more
areas to concentrate on.
The decision to try to include some kind of an attractive focal point
is almost like an art form. Just like an artist needs to put the finishing
touches on his masterpiece, a gardener needs to do the same with the
accents in his garden area.
A focal point should be something around which other things are planned
and developed. Often things like trees or shrubs are used as focal
points. However, there are certainly other options from which you
can choose since decorating can be a very personal thing for many
people. For example, something like a pond, a statue, or even a fountain
might also be an appropriate accent.
Because some kind of continuity is sometimes nice, it is good to
have some sense of things following a theme in your garden. If the
plants that you have inside of your garden area happen to be a variety
of different heights, one way that you can actually smooth everything
out is to simply add an ornament.
Adding a simple ornament can help to raise the focal point and thus
give your garden a nicer visual impact. Things like statues, sundials,
or a pillar that is included with something like a potted plant can
help you to accomplish this in a way that is both effective and attractive.
If, for example, the shape of all of your plants are more or less
roundish, then you can choose an ornament that is pointed. Choosing
a plant that has one or more points to it can help you in being able
to add some variation to your backyard.
On the other hand, if your plants are already pointed, then you can
simply apply a round ornament in order to supplement it. This works
well.
In some other types of cases it isn’t absolutely necessary
for the focal point to even be inside of your own garden.
Let’s say for example that you live in a particularly beautiful
area. If you already have some kind of a spectacular horizon already
that is situated somewhere in the distance behind your garden, then
you can actually use this as a your focal point and then base your
garden design around it. Hills and mountains are the perfect example
of a focal backdrop.
The truth is that it is unwise to try to do too much when you already
have beautiful surroundings nearby. Remember that you should not try
to out-do Mother Nature. Use what you have already and then you can
just do minor things to dress things up a bit.
Of course, not everyone is fortunate enough to live next to a mountain
range or a tall hill. What this means is that it may actually be necessary
for you to create your very own focal point.
Regardless of if you use what Mother Nature has given to you or if
you use other items to create a focal point, remember that it is important
to have some kind of garden accents in your area.
