Garden bench

Garden benchOnce your beautiful garden is complete, you may have a desire to sit down and relax amongst your work and enjoy the fruits of your labor. After all, building up a garden is a lot of hard work and it can sometimes be very grueling.

In order to get some real relaxation in, a bench may be required. That is, of course, unless you would rather just sit on the ground. Garden benches are very available at furniture shops and garden supply shops and you can find them in all kinds of shapes, colors and sizes.

However, if you are now looking for a new project since all the plating and sowing is over with, and if you are one of those people who love to make things. Building on of these benches all by yourself could also be a very feasible option.

To build a bench like this that will be built to be able to stand up to whatever nature surrounds it with, the main things that are absolutely needed are frames of good, tough wood. Perhaps the best kinds of wood to use when constructing a sturdy bench would be teak, oak, or poplar.

After you have chosen wood that you are sure is going to be able to stand up to the elements, you then will want to find some strong glue as well as some screws. The kind of nails that will do you best in a project like this are 3d finish nails.

The actual number of items such as nails and wood required largely depends on the finished design of the bench. If you don’t have an exact idea of hat kind of bench you will be building, you need to make sure to decide that before you get too far into the total project.

But for something like a simple bench, you can already have a pretty good idea of the kinds of things that you are going to need even before you get very far into the project at all.
These things are: the plank for the seat and back, wood for the armrests and blocks for the four legs. These things are absolute musts and cannot be negotiated. If you do not have these things on your bench, then you probably don’t have much of a bench.

Building a garden bench is a actually somewhat of a complicated process because the measurements of the lengths of the four legs have to be exactly equal, the size of the back rest and the seat need to be near equal and if you desire to include something like armrests, then they should be of equal length and width also.

Basically, all these parts simply need to be attached at each of the correctly measured points in order to balance and counter balance one other. The joining of these parts can be done using materials like glue and screws and nails.

However, if you choose to use these items, you should ensure that you are using some of the nicest available. Nicest doesn’t necessarily mean most expensive, but it does mean that it will be able to hold up when it needs to. If the correct measurements are not adopted, then the bench very possibly could collapse at your first attempt of sitting on the seat.

After you have finally built the bench and it is completely stable, it is important that you finish the job by doing things like sanding it and finishing it with some kind of a treatment or stain. If you want to let it be left uncoated, you can do that as well. Choosing this option will eventually weather the bench to a beautiful silver-gray color.

Whatever the finish you choose, it is always wise to build a garden bench only if you are very adept at woodwork. That’s not to say that you cannot do it without experience, but if you want for the bench to turn out safe and beautiful, you may at least want to consult with a carpenter.

If you don’t want to do that, you still always have the option of buying the bench at the store. This option could be more expensive, but it is certainly much easier to do and doesn’t take even a fraction of the time.
