Gazebos have been a backyard staple for centuries. They date back as far as ancient Egyptian and Roman times when the days were passed strolling through gardens. Today they provide enjoyment on summer days, look great in gardens, and are a wonderful area for entertaining guests. They also provide a shaded place to get away from the hot summer sun while still being able to enjoy the outdoors.

The thing to consider before installing a gazebo is space. Since they're large they'll only look appropriate in backyards with a lot of space. Cramming one in a small backyard can look awkward. Choose from enclosed ones to ones that are open to the outdoors. Enclosed gazebos allow for enjoyment during the colder months. Put it in the backyard or attach it to a deck. They also look great poolside. Place it on top of a hill and it can be used to enjoy a view of the surrounding area.

Most come in an oval, rectangular, or octagonal design, however they can also be custom built to fit your backyard. You will also have to choose between a single or double roof and what type of material you want such as vinyl, cedar, pine, or wrought iron. Try and choose a material that goes with or will compliment your house.

Other amenities include windows and doors. Some even have electricity and plumbing. It's like a little summer home or winter cabin right in the backyard.

To increase the beauty of your gazebo even more, add some plant life like gorgeous climbing flowers or vines. It's stunning and creates great shade. Top it off with a weathervane.

Add lighting for evening enjoyment. Little lights strung throughout are a charming idea. Add some sort of seating like Adirondack chairs or a dining set for summer barbeques or put a hot tub inside.

A gazebo provides a quiet area away from the house for solitude and relaxation. It will increase the enjoyment and the beauty of your backyard.
