The
right garden
accents can personalize your garden and turn it into
your own, personal oasis. There are many different garden accents
out there for you to choose from, from fountains to lighting to statues
to garden benches, and more. What you choose, though, depends on your
own personal tastes. Here are some ideas for possible garden accents
for your home:
Fountains and other water features
As far as garden accents, water features are, perhaps, the most soothing.
In fact, there is nothing quite like the sound of burbling, gurgling,
lapping, and running water to fill your garden and you with tranquility
and peace of mind.
Of course, fountains and water features do not simply sound good,
they look beautiful, as well. There are so many styles of fountains
out there, that you are certain to be able to find one that is of
the right size and look for your own garden. There are fountains with
cherubs and birds as well as abstract fountains and many other types.
With any fountain that you choose as a garden accent, though, you
will be adding a wonderful sense of tranquility to your garden.
Sundials, stepping stones, and statues
Sundials are a very fun garden accent. Sure, these days most people
have other ways to tell the time than by the shadows that the sun
casts, but a sundial can be a very beautiful addition to a garden.
And if you align it properly, it will, indeed, let you know exactly
how long you have been gardening!
Garden accents can even be on the very ground that you are stepping
on. Case in point: stepping stones. There is no reason that your pathways
throughout your garden should not have some decorative garden accents
of their own, as well. There are many beautiful stepping stones available
that range from simple, flat stones to stones with heartening words
like “hope” or “flower” to stepping stones
with interesting mosaics or colors or pictures.
And do not forget the statues! Statues are very common garden accents
that have been around for centuries. Why not have statues in your
own garden? There are so many different styles of statues out there,
made from many different materials, from abstract to concrete (hee
hee), you are sure to find a statue that will look great in your own
garden.
Lighting
Lighting is, in a sense, one of the most important garden accents
that you can have. Although, really, what lighting really does is
accent your garden. Nonetheless, if you want any of your garden accents
to be visible at night, you need to have the right lighting.
You can use lighting to spotlight a statue or sundial. You can use
lighting to light up stairs and drop-offs, therefore making your yard
safer at night. You can use lighting to create silhouettes or cast
shadow or create a fascinating ambience around your fountain. You
may have thought that lighting was just a way to make it so that you
could see at night, but garden lighting can really create a whole
other, beautiful way to view your garden.
Fencing and Edging
Fencing and edging can do wonders as a garden accent. In fact, with
the right fencing and edging, you can not only add the beauty of a
fence, but you can also accentuate other beautiful parts of your garden.
Fencing and edging is great for separating different sections of
your garden and creating bold lines. Fencing is also great for keeping
pets and away from vegetable and flower gardens! No, not ever house
needs a white picket fence, but all homes could use some excellent
fencing and edging to add interest as a garden accent.
In truth, the best garden accents are the ones that best reflect
your own personality and tastes. Such garden accents are what make
your garden unique. So, while a neighbor may go out and buy beautiful
ceramic pots and fill them with exotic flowers, you may choose to
buy the same pots and fill them with dandelions. Or, perhaps you will
use similar, exotic flowers, but plant them in an old bathtub, instead.
Not all garden accents need to be bought. Some you can create or
find yourself. Be creative with your garden accents, and find the
ones that best suit you!
