If
you have purchased or are thinking about purchasing metal patio furniture,
you should know that although it looks great right after you buy it,
unless you take good care of it, it will deteriorate and need replaced
just like anything else.
A lot of furniture made of metal is made from chrome, wrought iron
or a painted steel. If you are cleaning it simply so you can get some
of the dust or pollen off of it, you can dust it with either a dry
or a slightly damp cloth. Or you can use a vacuum cleaner brush.
If you need to do some heavy duty cleaning, wash with a cloth or
a sponge that has been wrung out with a mixture of water and mild
detergent. Perhaps the best kind of detergent you can use would be
some kind of a hand dishwashing liquid. This is strong enough to clean,
but not so strong that it might eat away at whatever it is you are
cleaning.
After you have finished this part, you can wipe it down with a clean
sponge or a cloth wrung out of water. If you want to ensure that you
don’t receive any water spots, you can wipe it dry with either
a cloth or a paper towel.
You may want to also check a label or ask the manufacturer if the
furniture can be waxed. There are certain metal finishes that should
absolutely not be waxed. If it can be, make sure that before you begin
you buy wax that specifies on the bottle that it can be used on metal.
This is a process that you will want to follow every so often with
your metal patio furniture. It is a good idea to wipe it down often,
but you do not need to wax as often as you simply remove residue.
