While
oak is very popular for craftsmen who make furniture that is made
to store inside the home, it is sometimes a different story when the
furniture being made is to be used outside. Therefore an oak bench
may or may not be a good thing for you to try to build.
First of all, one of these might be a nice piece of furniture to
attempt to build because it is heavy and durable. Even if you aren’t
going to build it, you may want to purchase a bench made of this material
because it is so solid.
The disadvantage to this, however, is the fact that it is so heavy.
While you want a nice solid bench, you likely do not want something
so heavy that it can’t be moved in case you need to clean or
mow around it.
A disadvantage with having oak can also be the fact that this type
of wood is a little more prone to warping than many other kinds of
wood out there. This fact should make you a little hesitant to buy
if you are a perfectionist and want to make sure that the wood stays
in great shape for a long time.
On the other hand, if you are attempting to buy or build a more rustic-type
of bench, it does not really matter if the wood warps a little bit.
As a mater of fact, if anything, it could add to the charm of the
bench.
The final choice concerning if an oak bench is a good or a bad financial
decision ultimately rests upon you. However, if you are armed with
the knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of what using this
kind of wood are, you will be much more likely to make a final choice
that you will be happy with.
