Outdoor kitchens

Outdoor kitchensOutdoor kitchens are not new, but they have dramatically increased in popularity over the past few years. In the past, the kitchen outside was only frequently heard of in very temperate or warm climates. Now, these great additions are added to homes in all areas. With some careful winterizing, all outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy cooking outside.

There are key points to consider when you set out to expand your cooking and entertaining area outside. Some these key deciding factors include:

• Location – you will need an outdoor area that has access to power, gas and water if you choose to use those utilities in your addition. It is also important to consider the materials near your proposed cooking area. Wood can ignite, siding can melt and other materials are also flammable. Use extreme caution when determining the best place for your grill. Consider the weight of adding a kitchen on your deck. Many decks are not sturdy enough to hold the added weight of an outdoor kitchen. You may need to add supports prior to any additional appliances.
• Simple kitchens for your outdoor space can be affordable investments; however there are many options that are much more complicated and involved. These additions to your home’s exterior will come with an hefty price tag.
• A grill is the central component for adding space to cook on your porch, deck or patio. The major decision regarding a grill is whether to choose charcoal or gas. Storage is a good idea for storing your grilling gear such as long-handled spatulas and tongs.

If a grill were all you needed for an outdoor kitchen, then a large percentage of the homes would have one. It is the convenient set-up of storage space and customized features that turn a grilling spot into a full-blown kitchen. Most avid barbeque enthusiasts would argue that it is much easier to have the items they need when cooking at arms’ length, rather than having to run back and forth between the grill and the kitchen. Storage becomes a big deal for serious grillers.

Once you are considering storage, you may want to go all out and add an outdoor sink. This enables the cook and others to wash their hands without trudging inside. This is a great advantage for those who need to wash their hands after placing raw meat on the grill.

Other features that can enhance outdoor kitchens include:

•Dishwashers,
•Disposals,
• Counter tops,
• Efficient lighting, and
• Protection from the elements.

The addition of outdoor kitchens increases the usability and entertainment possibilities of a basic deck, porch or patio. One of the bonus advantages of this convenient addition to a home is that it substantially increases the value of the home.
