The patio canopy is a wonderful patio accessory. It encourages homeowners to utilize their patio more frequently and for longer periods of time with its plentiful shade. The shade from one of these canopies can even make your patio feel a few degrees cooler as it shades you from the direct sunlight.

Canopies are available in many styles and with many optional features. Some of these include:

• Retractable shade canopies – these can be retracted when they are not needed. This is a great addition for a do-it-yourselfer to install. This canopy can greatly improve the comfort factor of your patio or deck.
• Gazebos can serve as patio canopies. These structures, usually made from wood or vinyl siding, combine a small patio with an overhead roof serving as canopy.
• Patio canopies can also be found in such items as oversized patio umbrellas, grill canopies and porch swing canopies. While these options offer less shade, the newer over sized versions really do offer quite a bit of shade.
