Twenty
years ago, solar power was hard to come by and not very effective.
Fast forward to the present day and you can look around and see that
it now is an effective source of energy. One of the places where this
is most evident is in solar outdoor lighting.
Now, as you look around you would not be able to tell the difference
between normal lights and those lights that are powered by energy
from light. However, there are some tell-tell signs that would give
away a light as being solar.
You can look for the following things if you really want to understand
if a light that you see is solar or powered by some other source.
•The housing – While most lights have some kind of housing,
the housing that is included with solar lights are slightly different.
For example, it needs to be weather-proof in order to allow the light
to work correctly.
This housing is often an important part of the light itself. It can
be quite attractive and blend in well with the light. It does not
need to be big and box-like. There are many attractive types of housing
that are sleek and attractive.
• Connections – All solar outdoor lighting is not created
equally. The connections of the wires inside of them are one of the
big things that separate the men from the boys, so to speak. That
is, it separates the high quality lights from the ones that are of
a worse quality.
That means that the connections of the circuits inside of the light
will give a more brilliant light than the lights whose circuits are
made with less quality.
• Length of use – The length of the time that the light
will work can be a dead giveaway that the light employs solar outdoor
lighting. Even though solar lights can be bright and useful, they
tend to not be able to be able to stay lit for too long. Certainly
it can’t compare to electric energy which will go on and on
and on as long as it stays plugged into the wall.
• Three letters – LED. These kinds of light bulbs are
perhaps the most useful. In the last several years they have become
much more popular thanks to the fact that they simply work so well.
These kinds of lights work hours and hours and hours longer than a
normal light does.
The reason? There is no filament. Because there is no filament, that
means that you don’t worry about a filament burning out.
A normal light bulb that is well made typically can last for more
than 3,000 hours. While that is not too bad, it is miniscule compared
to the length that LED lights stay active.
These lights can work for more than 100,000 hours before burning out.
Maybe that number doesn’t register in your head, but in other
words, what this is saying is that this light could last for more
than a decade.
Can you imagine not having to change a light bulb for years and years
at a time? It’s no wonder why so many people prefer these kinds
of lights to use on their patio or outside of their home.
After looking at each of these items, it’s no wonder that solar
outdoor lighting has continually increased in popularity for the last
several years. And, all signs point to more and more advancements
being made.
Who knows, perhaps in the not-too-distant future, all lights that
you use will be made in the same way.
